A common feature of these activities is the close connection between academic research and the needs of businesses, public administration, and regional development.
Digital transformation, AI, and data processing
An important area of cooperation is applied research focused on digitization and artificial intelligence. FaME is involved in the European EDIH DIGIMAT project, which is part of the European Digital Innovation Hubs network and aims to support the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises through the introduction of industrial AI, automation, and data processing. The project builds on close cooperation with industrial and innovation partners and offers companies services such as test before invest.
The development of these capacities is also followed up by the strategic OP TAK ITI project focused on industrial and institutional digitization and automation of business processes, implemented in cooperation between the Faculty of Applied Informatics and FaME. The project strengthens the research and innovation infrastructure of TBU and creates a basis for long-term cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of Industry 4.0 and 5.0.
Cooperation with companies in the digital economy
A specific example of the close connection between research and practice is a project implemented in cooperation with Aukro, focused on the development of a multilingual, personalization, and security AI platform for auction and C2C environments. FaME is involved in the project mainly through behavioral research, user behavior analysis, and evaluation of the impact of digital solutions in real-world operations. The project enables not only the technological development of the partner, but also a deeper understanding of the functioning of digital markets and user decision-making processes.
Circular economy, material flows, and sustainability
Another important area of cooperation is the circular economy and sustainable resource management. FaME is involved in the CirkArena research and development center, where it participates in activities focused on the valuation of biowaste, material flow analysis (MFA), and econometric modeling of resource availability and usability.
This area is also linked to the CLEAR project – Center for Recycling Strategic Materials in the Automotive Industry, funded by the TA ČR SIGMA program. As part of this project, FaME contributes its expertise in the field of economic evaluation, circular business models, and analysis of the impact of recycling technologies on businesses and public policy.
Capacity building and long-term cooperation with the application sphere
The project portfolio is also complemented by the OP TAK project focused on the development of the research and innovation infrastructure of TBU, which combines technical and managerial-economic competencies in providing services to small and medium-sized enterprises. FaME guarantees the areas of strategic management, economics, industrial engineering, and innovation management, strengthening the university's role as a regional center for applied research.
Developing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in higher education
The portfolio of external projects at FaME is expanding with the international project InnoPath: Fostering Collaborative Innovation and Entrepreneurial Mindsets in Higher Education, prepared as part of the EIT Higher Education initiative (Horizon Europe). The project focuses on connecting universities with companies and other actors in the innovation ecosystem with the aim of creating an environment for the emergence of start-ups, the development of entrepreneurial talent, and the transfer of knowledge into practice. FaME's involvement consists mainly in building structures for cooperation with the application sphere, developing programs focused on entrepreneurship, mentoring and supporting innovative projects, and creating opportunities for companies to get involved in education, testing solutions, and joint innovation activities. The project thus strengthens companies' access to talent, supports the emergence of new entrepreneurial initiatives, and contributes to the long-term development of the regional and international innovation environment.
